Ord-East Kimberley Expansion Project

A joint venture between Leighton and Indigenous Business Australia has won a $50 million construction contract for the first phase of the Ord River Irrigation Area expansion.

The joint venture will develop 19 kilometres of irrigation channel and a 13 kilometre road extension.

Leighton’s have advised that the Joint Venture is committed to maximising local participation and have noted opportunities for local businesses in the areas of:

  • Fencing
  • Piped drainage
  • Small concrete structures
  • Plant hire
  • Site clearance
  • Plant maintenance
  • Site accommodation and support
  • Clerical support
  • Plant operators
  • Roadworks

Selection criteria for the letting of subcontract will include but may not be limited to:

  • Appropriate capability and capacity
  • Value for money
  • Commitment to the project local content and indigenous participation objectives
  • Safety, health, quality and environmental performance and commitment.

Broome North

Landcorp continues to progress this significant development that may ultimately house an additional 13,000 people in Broome. Development of Broome North will respect the cultural and environmental heritage of the area and will include land for retail and community facilities.
